5 reasons why you should go for a hybrid

We are living in a world where it is becoming increasingly important to take care about the environment. The human race, as a whole, is slowly beginning to realize the fact that we are damaging our mother Earth at an increasing rate. This is why we have to do whatever is necessary to preserve the surrounding. If we do not start right now, we might pretty soon find ourselves living in a world where there is no greenery, with dull, grey imagery all around us.

One of the greatest reasons why the environment is getting increasingly devastated is our usage of fossil fuels, which leave traces in our atmosphere. To combat this, the scientists have long toyed with the idea of getting the cars to run on electricity. While this has not been fully developed, mostly because of charging issues, there is a tempting option of a hybrid car. A hybrid runs both on fossil fuels and electricity, switching to fossils once the batteries run out, until they are charged again. Since there are still people who oppose such ideas, here are a few reasons why you should purchase a hybrid car.

They consume less fuel

Well, this one is fairly obvious, I would have to say. Logically, when you drive on electricity, you spend no fuels. But, what’s more, most of the hybrids, while running on gas, spend less fuel than regular cars. For example, Toyota Prius can go around 50 miles per gallon, while its main competitors (hybrid versions of Honda Civic, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan) are not going below 40 mpg. This is good for two reasons. One, there is less gas emission, which means that there is less pollution from cars. The second thing is that you will save more than a couple of hundreds of dollars each year on gas.

It is cheaper to insure them

When you go to insure your car (and this is something that you absolutely have to do), the chances are high that you will receive an instant discount just because you are trying to insure a hybrid. Car insurance companies are trying their best to draw new customers and they have realized that it is worth their while to offer discounts to people driving hybrids. The discounts go up to 10% of the policy. Also, it is considered less dangerous to drive this kind of car, so the quotes are generally lower, which means that you will have to pay less to begin with.

You will feel morally superior (and, also, more ‘cool’)

Driving a hybrid gives you a moral edge over all the people that are yet to adopt this new way of driving around, simply because you are doing something to preserve the environment and the others are not. You can use this to brag around or have it to be a nice conversation topic. When it comes to being more ‘cool’, all I can say is that Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek and even Prince Charles are all swapping their gas powered cars with hybrids. If you want to be like them, you could definitely use a car which says “no!” to endangering the environment.

Tax savings

Several states across the US and an increasing number of countries are offering their citizens to pay less tax for the cars which utilize electric energy to run. I’ve spoken to Benjamin Gilmore from CarSearchBrokers and he has confirmed this information for me. The governments around the world are, too, realizing that they should encourage people to go green, and tax incentives are one way of doing it. Why not save a few dollars, pounds or euros?

Getting an HOV pass

Another way in which the governments are trying to influence people to pollute the environment less is by providing them with a carpooling option. This means that if there are more than two people in your car, you can utilize the HOV lane to drive and avoid traffic congestion. This way, instead of a car per person on the road, there is a car per at least three persons on the road, which significantly lessens the pollution. However, if you purchase a hybrid, you will get a decal for your car which allows you to utilize this lane (thus get anywhere faster) even if you are alone in the car. You are not polluting, so you can get the benefits that come with preserving the nature.

Buying a hybrid is still a question of debate among people. Some find flaws to these vehicles (for example, they are not as strong and as fast as the gas powered ones). Others simply do not believe that they are worthwhile. However, with all the reasons listed here, I’m sure that you will at least think about getting one, because purchasing a hybrid is definitely a good thing to do.
